The Portmagee Whiskey

The Story of the Portmagee Whiskey

Portmagee is a picturesque fishing village located in the far southwest of County Kerry, Ireland. The village is situated on the Iveragh Peninsula and serves as the gateway to Valentia Island. The name Portmagee (Port Magee) derives from the exploits of the infamous smuggler Captain Theobald Magee from the 18th century.

Captain Theobald Magee, an infamous smuggler of the 18th century, gave the village of Portmagee its name and inspired the renowned Portmagee Irish Whiskey. After his time as an officer in King James's army, Magee engaged in smuggling goods such as spirits, tea, and tobacco along the southwest coast. His legacy lives on in the Portmagee Irish Whiskey.

The Skellig Coast along the Wild Atlantic Way is renowned for its spectacular landscapes and historic sites. Here, natural beauty, cultural diversity, and the Irish language converge against the backdrop of the dramatic coastal scenery. The changeable weather from the Atlantic enhances the fascinating atmosphere of this region.
